TheJournal of Evolution and Technologyis thepeer-reviewed, electronic, academic journalof theInstitute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies, which publishes contemporaryforesightinto long-term developments inscience, technologyandphilosophy. The journal's original name was theJournal of Transhumanism; in 2004 it was subsequently renamed to its current title, to reflect a broader scope beyondtranshumanisminto more mainstreamfuturist, albeit, technoprogressiveviewpoints. The goal of the Journal is to bring futuristschools of thoughtinto theacademicmainstream. That is, while specificallytechnoscientificin orientation, these schools have been criticized as being groups of scientists, engineers andlaymenpromotingfringe theories, a position much alluded to by critics who claimed these groups were out of touch with academic opinion. The Journal of Evolution and Technology, then, is an attempt by academic futurists with a technoprogressive perspective to draw new and challenging ideas into the realm of peer review to counterbioconservativepublications, such as theNew Atlantis magazine. On January 16, 2008,Russell Blackfordwas appointed editor-in-chief of the Journal.
