Michel Foucault, the French philosopher, was one of the most influential thinkers of the 20th Century. Alan Sheridan refer to Foucault’s works by their original French titles—he use English titles only when referring to the translations as such. Each quotation is followed by a note in brackets giving page references, first to the French edition and, second, where available, to the English translation. The titles are abbreviated to two or three capital letters.
