What we need is a systematic exploration of the changing trends in organizations and what this might mean for the managers and leaders in the Twenty-First Century. This book draws on top management academics and practitioners alike to help us define the business trends that will inform us in developing the twentyfirst- century manager and business leader of the future. There is no magic formula that one can derive for designing the prototypicmanagers for the next decade or two, but there are a range of interesting ideas, given different organizational contexts and developments, about the kind of skills and characteristics that may be needed to manage our institutions in the future. The first two parts of the book are comprised of some of our leading international management scholars exploring the trends and changes needed for managers and business leaders in the future. The third part includes the views of a range of practitioners about their perceptions of the future of work and the role of managers/business leaders—a view from the coalface.
