Handbook of Coatings for Concrete

Description

This handbook provides detailed information on the use of coatings to protect concrete from atmospheric exposure and has been written by experts in the field in Europe and the Far East and edited by two well known names in concrete coatings research.

It reviews the present state of knowledge of the different generic types of coatings commonly used, highlights specific needs in the protection of concrete, discusses the standardised testing carried out and has a useful section on typical case histories. Each chapter is illustrated by clear diagrams and photographs where necessary and there is a useful bibliography at the end of each chapter.

The handbook starts with a comprehensive introductory chapter to set the scene; why coat concrete, with what and how should it be carried out. The following chapters of the book essentially take the points made here and expand on them. Firstly the types of coatings typically used are described, but before this, the second chapter gives an overview of paint technology, so that those readers not familiar with this subject will be able to understand the concepts discussed. For each generic coating type, an easily understood description of the chemistry is given followed by the properties and performance of the coatings and finally typical uses.
