These notes are for students from geoscience who are interested in a theoretical background of the Finite Element Methode (FEM) for geodynamic modeling. Due to the wide range of related topics which are involved in this type of modeling (tectonics, rheology, linear algebra, function analysis etc.) some basic knowledge and understanding in these fields is assumed.
