Michelangelo

Few artists in history match the reputation achieved by the Italian genius Michelangelo. Born in the shadow of Florence, one of the leading art centers of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, he achieved immortality through his art. Whether serving ruling families or strong-minded popes, his talents included those of painter, sculptor, and architect. The names of his art masterpieces are as well known as his own name-the statue of the biblical shepherd boy, David; marble sculptures of the Pieta and Moses; and the altar wall mural, The Last Judgment.
