Description

This chapter is essentially devoted to discuss this question. Since predicting the future is notoriously a risky activity, we will greatly constrain the scenario assuming the following hypotheses :

No technological breakthrough will occur in fields (like spintronics, photonics,etc.), which are potential competitors to microelectronics.

The concerted research and development activity outlined by the road map will guarantee that the evolution of microelectronics will continue in the next 10 years as described by Moore's laws.
